A quote by Elizabeth Gilbert reads, "Embrace the glorious mess that you are." The text is in bold, uppercase letters, with "Elizabeth Gilbert" highlighted in pink, while the rest of the quote is in blue. To the left, there's a red heart made of textured, patchwork-style material, outlined with white tape. The background is a bright yellow grid pattern, adding a playful and uplifting feel to the design.

Your Conference Packing Checklist

Conference coming up? Great for your career, annoying for your packing list. If you're staring at your suitcase wondering what to bring (and what you'll regret), here's your go-to guide for 2–3 days of networking, learning, and looking pulled together—minus the overpacking.

1. Business Casual Outfits (With Layers)

Conference A/C has one setting: arctic tundra. Pack 2–3 versatile outfits you can layer, rewear, and feel good in from breakfast panels to happy hour—without freezing or looking like you just rolled out of your suitcase.
  • 2-3 Professional Outfits: Choose versatile business casual pieces in wrinkle-resistant fabrics that mix and match easily. ⭐️ Check out this wrinkle-free blouse or consider packing a portable steamer.
  • Blazer or Cardigan: Adds a polished look and provides warmth in chilly rooms. ⭐️ Try this top rated blazer.
  • Comfortable Shoes: Select stylish flats, loafers, or low heels that support long hours of walking and standing. ⭐️ Thania loves these slides.
  • Versatile Accessories: Pack a few simple jewelry items or scarves to change up your look without using much space. ⭐️ Joanna always packs this necklace set.
2. Conference Essentials

Having the right essentials ensures you stay prepared and make the most of your experience.
  • Notebook & Pens: Whether you prefer digital or handwritten notes, having a physical backup is useful.
  • Contact Info, Please: You don't need paper cards anymore. Use LinkedIn's QR code to connect on the spot, or try digital tools like HiHello, Blinq, or Popl. (Bonus points for being eco-friendly and harder to lose.)
  • Reusable Water Bottle: Stay hydrated throughout long days with a bottle you can refill at conference stations.
  • Healthy Snacks: Skip the hanger with granola bars, trail mix, protein snacks, or even some sliced fruit or almonds in a Stasher bag.
  • Chargers & Power Bank: Portable chargers are crucial as outlets can be limited.
  • Tote Bag or Backpack: Choose something lightweight yet spacious enough for your laptop, and everything we just listed above. ⭐️ Thania loves this laptop briefcase.
3. Personal Care & Miscellaneous

Maintaining personal comfort and hygiene is key to a successful conference.
  • Travel-Sized Toiletries: Bring essentials like deodorant, face wipes, toothpaste, and dry shampoo for quick refreshes.
  • Breath Mints or Gum: Keep your breath fresh for networking interactions.
  • Hand Sanitizer & Wipes: Essential for staying germ-free with all the handshakes.
  • Mini First-Aid Kit: Include band-aids, pain relievers, and other basics for minor mishaps.
  • Mini Stain Remover: Tackle any unexpected spills to keep your outfits looking pristine.
Packing Tips
  • Use Packing Cubes: Organize your items and maximize space. Joanna's had these for 2+ years—no complaints so far!
  • Roll Your Clothes: Prevent wrinkles and save space by rolling instead of folding.
  • Write Out Your Activities: Gym? Client dinner? Rooftop drinks? Jot down what you've got planned, then build your outfits around it. It takes a little extra effort upfront, but it saves you from overpacking—and scrambling to get ready later.
A well-packed bag = fewer outfit regrets and way more conference brain space. Plan smart, pack light, and go crush it.

BUSINESS OPS

Surrounding her are colorful chat bubbles in green, purple, and red, each containing profile icons and text, suggesting an online discussion or brainstorming session. The background is a soft purple hue.

ADULT SHINGLES

A three-panel minimalist illustration in yellow and blue depicting the progression of a medical condition. The first panel shows a stick figure clutching their side with a pained expression and a rash on their torso. The second panel shows another figure reacting in surprise as the first one winces in pain. The third panel depicts a medical professional examining the afflicted person, who now has bandages over the rash. The imagery suggests a health issue that worsens over time and requires medical attention.

Shingles Before 50? Yes, It Can Happen to You!

Did you know that the chickenpox virus never actually leaves our bodies?

Instead, it lies dormant in the nerve tissue and can reactivate years (or even decades) later as shingles. So, the unfortunate truth is…if you've had chickenpox, you're at risk for shingles.

And as someone who's experienced shingles firsthand in my 40s, I can assure you that it's not exclusive to the elderly, and it's far more than just an itchy rash.

My Shingles Experience

Picture this: I'm in Hollywood, FL for a leisurely weekend. My Saturday plan was to occupy a chair next to the pool with my new book, earbuds, and ocean sounds app while working on my tan.

Shingles had other plans.

Saturday morning, my right eye was extremely itchy and watery, which was also affecting my sinuses. I was pretty sure it was either allergies or, possibly, pink eye, but as the day went on, the symptoms worsened.

I scheduled a tele-health appointment, but the doctor wasn't convinced of my theories and recommended OTC eye drops. Unfortunately, they offered no relief and my symptoms grew exponentially worse.

By Saturday evening:
  • my right eye was now blazing red and watering uncontrollably
  • the area all around my eye (including half my forehead) was numb
  • my hair follicles on the right side were extremely sensitive
  • light sensitivity was agonizing
  • my sinuses were leaking like crazy
Still, no rash in sight.

My PCP quickly diagnosed me with shingles in my right eye on Monday morning and scheduled me for an appointment with an eye specialist the next day.

It turns out that shingles can be especially dangerous near the eyes. A rash may appear on the forehead, nose, and eyelid, but the real threat is to vision. If left untreated, it can lead to permanent scarring and even blindness.

My doctor immediately prescribed an antiviral medication and monitored my condition for several weeks. She also said that I was most likely able to avoid a full-blown outbreak or any lasting damage because I started treatment within 72 hours of the initial symptoms.

Prevention

Shingles is a serious condition that can lead to long-term pain and permanent nerve damage, so prevention may be the best treatment. To significantly reduce the risk of developing shingles and its painful complications, the CDC recommends that all adults 50 and older and immunocompromised individuals over 19 get the two-dose vaccine when eligible.

The dialogue mimics an exchange with the IRS, where the person asks how much they owe, and the IRS makes them guess—if they get it wrong, the consequence is "jail."
